Listen now (17 mins) | In Episode 9 of the Imagine Dignity Podcast, I had the privilege of meeting Latrice, a resilient woman living out of her car while managing a serious heart condition.
Sitting upright for days at a time isn’t good for health person. For Litrice, this is worsening her heart condition. In NYC Ms. Greer would be eligible for emergency placement in a Safe Haven (1-2 person(s)) per room, 3 meals a day, laundry room and case managers to assist with permanent housing. I hope Ms Greer gets permanently housed soon. That fluid build up is also worsening her condition.🙏🏾❤️
Thank you for your thoughtful comment and for sharing the resources available in NYC. You’re absolutely right—sitting upright for days is not healthy and can worsen existing medical conditions like Latrice’s. It’s heartbreaking to see how the lack of immediate and stable housing impacts her well-being.
We deeply appreciate your concern, and I want to assure you that we are doing what we can to support Latrice in her journey toward permanent housing. Access to care and safe spaces like the ones you described can truly make a life-saving difference for people in similar situations. Thank you for your empathy and prayers🙏🏾
I want to thank YOU for all you do. I only mentioned the resources in NYC for comparison’s sake. Just wanted to draw attention the fact that people with chronic illnesses should receive Emergency Services. Ms Greer is seriously ill. When you’re street homeless you CAN’T relieve yourself every you need to. Holding it, being in pain, finding relief from pain once you use the restroom? She’s smiling and she’s up beat but the water retention is making her heart work harder. …smh. If I could help her I would. Please help her. Living like that is shortening her life span.🙏🏾
