Screening 'Homesick' in Nashville!
Love Beyond Walls screens documentary for the first time publicly
After completing my dissertation, which consisted of written research and a documentary film examining the impact of public policy on the sense of self-worth among individuals experiencing homelessness, I made a commitment to gift the film to Love Beyond Walls.
The film looks at the law in Tennesee that makes sleeping outside a Class E Felony for those living on the streets.
With the specific aim of housing it within the Dignity Museum, I hoped that the research and content presented in the film would serve as a valuable resource, contributing to the ongoing advocacy work on behalf of the unhoused population across the United States.
Two months after defending my research, Love Beyond Walls is now gearing up for its first public screening of “HOMESICK” in Nashville, which explores Tennessee’s controversial “anti-camping” law at Christ Cathedral.
I have tears typing this and am excited to see how this film and research will advocate and organize those in Tennessee around loving and caring for those unhoused.
This film screening will be followed by a panel discussion from community leaders in Nashville who are proximate to the issues facing those unhoused and experiencing poverty with Dr. Contrecia Tharpe, Eric Brown Jr., and Howard Allen.
I am excited about doing this work through Love Beyond Walls outside the academy!
Lastly, Love Beyond Walls was just asked to bring the film to two National Museums this Summer. I cannot wait to share where we are headed next to screen this film and continue taking #LoveBeyondWalls.
This event above is free, but registration is required. You can register here: http://homesicknashville.eventbrite.com
I want to give a special shoutout to all sponsors, including Christ Cathedral, Urban Bicycle Food Ministry, and Open Table Nashville.

I have not seen your documentary but I plan to watch it. The homelessness issue is overwhelming in Nashville and Austin where I also live. Public camping is NOT the answer! Providing the funds to give options to help those who will accept help whether financial or mental IS the answer. You should check out Community First Village in Austin Texas that started as a ministry of the Church called Mobile Loaves and Fishes and has exploded with support from corporations and now public funds.
